Description

So when I said I was gonna post the status updates doodles I had but never uploaded, um... like 95% percent of them feature RariTwi. No regrets! ;_;

So, this little doodle here was done during a stream a while ago! Originally it was just me playing with Rarity if she were to have short hair, but then I added moderate beef Twi because of course I would, then it kinda turned into an AU where I'm trying out a different formatting style. Nothing unique or anything, but I usually tell AUs through asks I get from Tumblr. This time I'm actively telling the story instead of focusing more on the worldbuilding aspect of it. :3

A brief overview of the AU:

Rarity is a young fashionista feeling a bit burnt out on the inspiration front and is nearly pulling her hair out in her frustration of this artblock. In an attempt to get her friend to loosen up a little, Rainbow decides to bring her to the concert of her most favorite band, Rock'n'Royal. At first Rarity feels out of place: this isn’t her crowd, ponies dressed in leather and black and chains and tattoos. But the moment the lights go out, and the spotlight shines upon the lead singer of the band, all lavender and toothy crooked grin and bright eyes, Rarity feels a spark ignite in her chest.

And she can’t look away.

------------------------

TL;DR- Rarity's a fashionista just trying to find her way when she catches the eye of rockstar Twilight. ;-;

I already have a few parts of the story posted on my tumblr, so I guess I'll post them here too.... somehow. I haven't figured out exactly how though. o3o But regardless, here's the beginning part! WARNING: This shit gets long. o3o

------------------------

So before we can have some of that spicy RariTwi we gotta have them actually meet in the AU yeah? And that’s at the concert! But before even that, we start off with the reason why Rarity went to the concert in the first place: Rainbow Dash kinda tricked her into going.

Rarity managed to catch the eyes of a Boutique she’s followed for years and after sending in a job application, they actually asked her to come in and interview with them. Given how big-shot this place was, though, the interview would take a few weeks before it actually happened, so that gave Rarity the chance to do a bit more portfolio work to really wow the recruiter.

…Except she was having an art block. A terrible one; it was mostly because she was stressing so much about the interview that anything she designed at that point looked like a failure to her, and that in turn demotivated her, and added more stress, and so the cycle continued until she was nearly pulling her (and Rainbow’s) mane out. And Rainbow gets it, being an artist herself: sometimes you can’t just power through the artblock, you need to step away from it for a little while to get the creative spark back, but Rarity was at her wits end and refused to take a break.

So Rainbow figures that maybe a good way to get Rarity to loosen up a bit (or a lot) is to take her somewhere she’s never been before. Maybe something out of her element will shake her muse back. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand she really wanted to go to the concert herself and hey, it’ll be better with her best friend around. And so she splurges quite a bit on these tickets, gets them as close to the stage as possible, and after a few failed attempts to convince Rarity to go out, she eventually tells a harmless little fib about what kind of concert they’re going to. Rarity finally agrees to go and puts on a nice outfit for the occasion: nothing too fancy, just a pretty and sleek dress. But when they actually get to the concert it’s clear that even that’s kinda considered to be overdressing, what with the crowd all dressed up in an assortment of clothes: ripped jeans, leather jackets, piercings and tattoos, the whole shebang.

Rarity should’ve figured, with the way RD dressed herself, and she’s initially annoyed: she feels so very out of place. But she can see Rainbow’s only really trying to help her, and so against her better judgement, she agrees to stay and they take their place among the huge sea of fans, nearly right against the stage, and wait for it to start.

Soon the all the lights go out and aside from the occasional hollering or whooping of some in the crowd, it’s relatively silent. And for some reason, Rarity’s never felt so misplaced in her life: the crowd pressing against her back, the silence almost defining, it’s too dark to see much of anything aside from the telling glare of other ponies’ cellphones, and Rarity feels like she doesn’t belong somehow. It’s almost suffocating  and all of the days and days of stress seems to be piling up on her shoulders at that moment: she almost feels like she’ll bolt or her knees will give out.

But Rainbow suddenly puts a strong hand on her shoulder and best she can seeks her eyes out in the dark; she doesn’t say anything, but she gives a careful smile and a reassuring squeeze and a gentle shake to the shoulder she grabbed onto, and Rarity slowly allows herself to calm down.

One by one, the spotlight sparks on and shines onto the band members: A blue unicorn with a ridiculously huge hat and cape and fingers dancing across her keytar, a soft-yellow pegasus who almost looked like an angel in her simple white dress, a mountain of a stallion lost in his own world as he struck at his drums. And the final spotlight takes a little longer to come on, and at first all there is a silhouette in the foreground of the stage, voice ringing out clearly even as the crowd’s excitement builds. She’s singing, though Rarity doesn’t know the lyrics, but she can feel Rainbow Dash practically vibrating as she sings along and Rarity can’t help but notice her own heartbeat is speeding up.

The spotlight flashes on the final member of the band as she belts out the chorus that the audience scream with her. A lavender unicorn standing with all the authority of the world, eyes so violet they’re almost red, a grin toothy and sharp and crooked and oh so confident in her place on stage, harboring what Rarity swears is the longest horn she’s seen on a fellow unicorn. And just like that, Rarity is stricken, and she finds herself unable to tear her gaze away.

The concert wears on and with it, Rarity’s stress melts away to make room for the growing excitement swelling in her chest; Rainbow’s long since began stomping and shouting and singing at the top of her lungs, just like the rest of the packed concert hall, and Rarity finds herself joining them. Throughout the songs, the lead singer runs across the lip of the stage with her hand extended for a hive-five run with her fans, the sea of adoring faces desperately reaching out to get that split second contact. And Rarity joins them. And every time their hands meet Rarity swears she sees the singers eyes linger on her before moving on. It leaves a tingle down her spine.

Finally they reach another lull in the songs, the band playing idly while they interact with one another and with the fans before kicking off into another song. This time the lead singer, who Rarity has since learned is called “The Princess” or “Twilight”, has put down her guitar and is pacing the stage, all smirk and nearly glowing eyes as she addresses the crowd. She’s got their rapt attention and Rarity hangs on to every word, wrapped up as if in a spell.

“So it’s very great to be here, you’ve all been such an awesome crowd!” She says, “and we were thinking, maybe I should properly show my appreciation, no?” She stops dead center of the stage, one hand on a cocked hip and the other on her chin as if thinking. “So how about this: I’m gonna bring one of you onto this stage…”

The crowd starts shouting their affirmative. The singer grins.

“…and I give you a kiss?”

The roar is deafening, Rarity can only muster a breath as a contribution. The sea of ponies are rolling and waving, arms shooting forward and voices trying to outstage one another as they attempt to get the singer’s attention. She paces the stage from one end to another slowly, eyes scanning the crowd and she lets out a “hmmm” for them to hear before her eyes land squarely on Rarity. And she grins down at her and says “how ‘bout you, sweetheart? Wanna come on up?” And extends her hand down to Rarity, and the crowd parts to give her access. And at first Rarity doesn’t move because holy shit. But she can feel the heat in her cheeks building, and so must the singer, because her grin only widens.

She feels Rainbow’s nails bite into her forearm before pushing her forward with a “GO GET ‘ER, GURL” and as soon as her shaking hand grabs hold of the extended one of the singer, she finds herself easily hauled up as if she weighs nothing. Those arms aren’t just for show then…

Twi gives Rarity a very deliberately slow once-over and she feels herself begin to tremble under the glaring gaze. And she says “Well, aren’t you the prettiest thing I’ve seen. You even dressed up for us, huh? I’m flattered.” She steps closer and puts the mic near Rarity and asks for her name. Despite herself, Rarity very clearly says her name, and it earns a genuine smile out of the singer and she says “well I hope you’re in for a “RARE” treat, Rarity!” with a waggle of her brows. The crowd (and her bandmates) hollers at the terrible pun and Rarity feels herself relax a bit as the singer laughingly apologizes for it. She turns her attention to Rarity again and asks her if she was okay with this, and Rarity gives a nervous nod. And with that, Twilight kisses her.

And at first it’s a small gentle kiss, almost sweet with affection, but then it turns into something else, a hidden ferocity surfacing the longer the kiss is drawn out. By the end of it Rarity’s hands are tangled in Twi’s hair and Twi is pulling away with a lingering nip to her bottom lip before she breathlessly says “wow”. And it’s only then Rarity hears the whooping of the crowd (when had the world faded away?) and with an ever deepening blush, untangles herself from the star, who has her own blush covering her face and ears and a toothy grin. Twi chuckles and addresses the crowd and thanks Rarity before helping her back down to her place from the stage. Before she fully lets her go, Twi gives a quick and affectionate kiss on the back of Rarity’s hand before she fully lets go and goes back to take her place on the stage. Rarity gets a few excited shoves and high-fives from surrounding fans and Rainbow shaking her with shouts of “OH MY GOD”!

The concert goes on, it ends, and after a quick stop to the shop right outside the concert hall to buy merch (and something for Sweetie Belle, who was off at their parents home for the weekend), Rainbow and Rarity tiredly but happily take the hour-long drive back to their apartment. Out from the corner of her eye, Rainbow sees Rarity pulling out a sketchbook and her pencil flying across the page in newfound inspiration. She catches Rarity stopping only once to touch a finger to her lips. Rainbow can only very smugly smirk at the obvious success of the trip.

And there ya go! What I might do is just post these in like... journals or maybe a sta.sh so I don't have to post all of it in the artist comment? We'll see!

Regardless I hope ya'll enjoyed me being total AU and RariTwi trash. C:<
