Description

Some finished work for another game concept we had to come up with. The project said to take an intellectual property and completely re-imagine it in your own vision if it were a game. I went with Little Red Riding Hood. This is what I presented and the class took it relatively well. I had so much fun with this project that I’ll probably work more on it on my spare time as portfolio work. :3

Anyway, this is the very simplified version of the story for this game:

You live with your grandparents (the woman in the dress and the man with the axe) and everything goes south when your grandmother contracts a strange, seemingly incurable illness that’s slowly killing her. You play as both Rory and Shadow (the girl and the wolf), and when you hear about a magical flower that supposedly cures all illnesses that resides on the top of the highest peak in the land, you embark on a perilous journey to obtain the flower for your grandmother. At the beginning of the game you encounter the Spirit of the Forest (the faun, genderless), and they give you a special pendent with their symbol on it that allows you special skills, as well as the ability to call upon their  will-o’-wisps to guide you on your journey.

I focused more on the actual look of the game and its story than I did interface and gameplay design, but in general the game would be a adventure/puzzle platformer that changes between side-scrolling and frontal view depending on what the characters are doing. It could possibly be for two players, but it’s primarily one player, and you can switch between Rory and Shadow at any given time, although you may have to stick to a particular character in some areas if their abilities better fits the environment.

Rory's abilities are being very nimble, able to climb most surfaces (especially trees), able to fit in small places, long-ranged attacks (she's great with a bow and arrow) and having posable thumbs. She's pretty quick for her size (Shadow's faster if only because he has a longer gait on all four), but she's also light on her feet, which makes her an excellent chose if you want to sneak by an enemy or not to trip up alarms. Shadow's abilities lies in his strength and speed. He can break a lot of things and is good for attacking larger enemies at close range with his claws and teeth. He follows every command Rory gives him and shadows her everywhere he can, hence his name (he's able to understand human speech but he cannot speak). He can also help her reach areas that she'd otherwise be unable to, such as lift her up to onto a tall steep rock, or jump a long distance over a chasm of sorts. Despite having thumbs and able to have a basic grasp on things, he cannot grab things like Rory can.

I’m likin’ how it’s looking so far, so I’ll probably try some interfacing design later. I hope you guys like the designs and stuff too. c:
