Preview: The Diamond Dogs by Earthsong9405 Preview: The Diamond Dogs by Earthsong9405
Once again, a preview for Requiem. :3 This time, I present to you the Diamond Dogs. I drew up three of the several varieties of them, just to give a little taste of how I view them as far as appearance goes... at least, the ones who are intelligent.

So, in Requiem's universe, the Diamond Dogs also don't have a country of their own, spread across the world and can be found in nearly every state. However, unlike the griffons, the intelligence of the Diamond Dog varies. While a good portion of them are intelligent and rather cultural, there are others that have the mentality of a mindless beast and nothing more. These feral Diamond dogs are often untamable and extremely aggressive, attacking anything that moves, even those of their own kind if they aren't in their packs.

Because of this, the Diamond Dog often face prejudice and disgusted fear, of which is often unfairly given. The Diamond Dogs in Equestria are treated as equals and actively serve as citizens of the country, but in some countries, they are either treated like a wild animal or a second-class citizen, no matter if they are feral or not.

As for the species as a whole, their appearance can vary. It's common place for those in Equestria to resemble Mastiff-type canines, while in Collambia they often resemble working/herding dogs. Diamond Dogs in Zebrica look a lot like our every day Hyena. But these are a few examples of many types.

In my headcanon, the Diamond Dog is a relatively large animal, though they can vary in size like they did in canon. Their body structure is somewhat similar to our real-life gorilla, only with longer arms and a more curved spine. Their appearance can vary depending on the sex, as well, where males often always have tusks/sabre teeth while females may not (it IS possible for them to have them, though). Males are often large, or at least bulky and stocky in build, while the females are slender and the curve in their spine isn't as extreme when they hunch.

And because I've been asked about it, I'll put the explanation here so everyone can see. The appearance between the sane and intelligent Diamond Dog differs very highly from the feral and mindlessly blood-thirsty Diamond Dog. The feral ones look more like they do in the canon, albeit a bit more... ferocious and insane. So it's pretty easy to tell when a Diamond Dog is civilized and smart, and if one is completely dangerous and should be killed on sight (sort of like the Ghouls and Feral Ghouls from Fallout 3). But despite that, the civilized and reasonable Diamond Dogs still face quite a bit of racism. :c

Now, for the characters:

-Telon, Diamond Dog bodyguard to the democratic leaders of Collambia. As a call-back/parody that touches on how herding dogs often act as protection to herds, these diamond dogs often act as a special force of soldiers that protect the residents of this country (which, in majority, are llamas and sheep/lambs.) This Diamond Dog is old, grizzled, and wise, but often very set in the old ways. He is the father of his second-in command, his daughter Fang.

-Hyena Diamond Dog without a true name, but the village he resides in calls him "He With Large Teeth", or Tusks as a nickname. One of the few Diamond Dogs who isn't treated as a wild animal in this country and is allowed to live among the tribes, he was raised by the local Shaman from puphood. He acts as a guardian protector to the village he resides in. Twilight Sparkle once met him when aiding the Zebrican nation in their war several years ago.

-Fang, Diamond Dog bodyguard and the second in command in Telon's squad. Smart and with a wit as quick as her tongue, she often gets into arguments with her father about how things should be approached. She's willing to do something new or different if it has the chance to work, and with the world changing so fast, she's worried her father's ways will one day get him killed... if their job doesn't do so first, anyway.

But yeah, these are all minor characters in the story, too, mainly Shining Armor's side-plot. So I hope you all like it. ^.^

Also, Merry Christmas, everyone! And if you don't celebrate Christmas, then Happy Holidays! c:

Yes, but they're also NOT real. So if I think there's a subspecies of diamond dog that is more hyena than dog, then there is. If you don't agree with that, that's cool, but we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I absoluetly LOVE practicly everything you draw, this one is in my top favs though. You can make them look like buff, ruthless creatures, like they were in the episode, but still keep that realistic dog look to them. Each different character you draw has a completely unique face, and you somehow still keep their personality perfectly portrayed. I don't know how you do it, but its amazing. Like I was saying before, I really love this peice because their are all uniqe in their own way, in size, muscle, face, ect.

Thanks, although this one isn't too good in comparison to the second version of it. I may end up deleting those one or at least redrawing the characters, to be honest. o3o
