Preview: Commander Sparkles

Something that I didn't post up because I initially wanted to wait until I was finished with it, but I figured... meh. I already showed Twilight Sparkle, so why not?

So, because co-author and I are currently makin' some good progress on Requiem, I wanted to do something related to it. Hence, this image is made. Our favorite Sparkle siblings, as they will appear in our little story. C:

Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor, the infamous and esteemed high-ranking soldiers of the Equestrian militia. Shining is still Captain of the Royal guard in this story, however his authority spans to the entirety of the Equestrian army, not just the Royal Guard. He gained his rank at a surprisingly young age (something that seems to be common within the Sparkle family), and has held it strong ever since with no signs of needing a replacement. Second only to Luna and Celestia, he has one of the highest ranks one could possibly achieve.

Twilight, like her brother, has her authority span to the entirety of the military, however she is still a few ranks lower than him as far as the militia goes. She is, however, one of the highest ranking mages, earning the title Archmage at a startling young age. Her role is more versed, as she works both as a commanding officer in war and as an emissary of the Princesses. Due to working directly with the Princesses, there are several instances where her authority can rival Shining Armor's if the task the princesses give her calls for it.

Regardless, they are both pretty well known for their heroic actions throughout their careers, especially for events they handled side by side.

As far as the actual image itself, I made a difference to their armor just to show there are different sorts of it in the story. Twilight's armor is considered more suited for frontal-line battle, where as Shining's gear leans more toward ceremonial but still holds a decent battle function. They both have both versions of armor, as does every other soldier, only these particular models could possibly only be seen in higher ranking soldiers. The "cutie mark" of the armor is the insignia of Celestia's sun and Luna's moon combined into one, representing their co-leadership.

The sketch of Twilight is one you've already seen before for that redraw session, but this is the main reason why I drew her; she's to be used for the sketchdump of these two. xD

There's a slight difference in the tint each sibling has too. The sketch of Twilight is slightly darker while Shining has a more cream tint. Not my intention, but I think it works well based on one has a darker fur color than the other. :3

I gotta get goin' to class now, but I may add more stuff up if I think of something. Other than that, expect to see these two in a pretty big sketch dump. The same may be done with the rest of the Mane 6, but yeah.
