MLP Test sketches: Elephants and Giraffesby *Earthsong9405

Uninspired title is very uninspired. :C

But yeah.

So.... I'm sick. Yep. I'm layed up in bed with perhaps the flu or something. I dunno. All I know is that I HATE getting sick. Worst feeling ever. So I may seem short-clipped or grumpy in my typing, just as a fair warning.

But enough about that. The only good thing that came from it is that I have nothing to do other than take medicine and sleep, so I drew up some test sketches for Requiem to pass a little time.

and I were pondering whether or not the larger hoofed animals were sentient, and we went with "yes". These animals include elephants, rhinos, hippos, and giraffes.

Granted... I've NEVER drawn a giraffe or an elephant before, and I think it shows, so I did this in order to get some practice. A couple of the elephant sketches are studies I did while watching Disney's Jungle Book, and then the final product of what I came up with in full-body. The giraffes... they were reffed with real images of giraffes and I tried to caricature them like I sort of do the MLP Ponies, instead of making them entirely realistic like I tend to do with the rest of the animals. I like how they came out.

Any way... yeah. We have nothing about their culture just yet, BUT I gave the giraffe bull some armor because there was questions about their military use in a battle. I do believe I found said use.

Following the MLP world's physics and such, I think they'd be relatively flexible and, as such, a pretty good asset to the fight. Not only are they big, but they're pretty fast for their height, and one kick will probably be enough to kill any pony, even if they're in armor. And then there's the matter of them using their necks in a fight. So I tried to design armor that protected their necks, as well as made it a far more lethal weapon with a bunch of extremely sharp spikes adorning the metal/leather armor.

And, like the bigger hoofed animals, they'd be capable of carrying heavy artillery to the battle field themselves without much trouble, unlike the ponies or moose who may have to have vehicles to transport heavy weapons for them.

I'll draw armor and weapons for the elephants later.

But yeah... my mind's sort of cloudy so forgive me if some of it doesn't make sense.

As usual, feel free to ask me anything. Until then, I hope you guys like. Also... I'm more than open to suggestions for armor designs for these big lugs. o3o

you said hippo live thare to, hippos are not nice animals.
i imagine that like africa, zebrca has had some conflict in its history. like i said i think the elaphants have come into conflict with others over food.
i think hippo have a bloody past, savage and brutal to non hippo

Indeed, although I never said anything about them being brutal. To tell you the truth I didn't think much about the hippos, but I don't think they'd be brutal and such to anything non-hippo, especially since in this current period there's a relative peace.

As for the Elephants, I think they wouldn't really be in conflict with the others over food. Like I previously said (I can't remember where though) they're a relatively peaceful group who avoid conflict if and when they can. They still train to be devastating soldiers for the sake of keeping a strong military presence in case they DO need to fight, but otherwise they don't want much to do with conflicts.

Long time no see Earty (been busy writing appledash and horror)

I see you have been busy sketching, and i'd say you do just as good as always.
Girafes and elephants? Are they the same size as in our world? Because if they are then i really don't hope they are going to attac them. It's going to be like the olifants in LOTR.
Is it me or does the girafes look a bit short necked? At least comparing to the girafes in our world.

For armor/weaponry: I believe the elephants could apply some of the same desings as the oliphants used in LOTR; with barbed wire between their tusks. Just a suggestion.

They're short necked because I didn't draw them completely; they'd be too big to fit in the sketch page if I had. As for their size, they aren't as big as they are in our world, but they're still huge in comparison to the ponies, so either way it'd be pretty hard. To be fair, the ponies fight up against dragons and manticores and hydras and other animals that easily make elephants and giraffes seem small, so.

i think, the elaphants have had a long history of war for the reason of thay eat a lot and thise may bring them in to conflict.
