Doodleception- King Sombra

Well. Here it is.

A surprising amount of you kept hounding me about when I was gonna draw my headcanon version of Sombra.

So here he is, a very messy doodle-concept thingy of King Sombra. B3

I needed to do this anyway, though, because I'ma begin to work on those large paintings of some of the villains and Alicorns, starting with this handsome fellow.

Quite honestly, because of the way they introduced him throughout most of that episode and his facial appearance, I immediately envisioned Sombra as a corrupted alicorn, almost like that of Nightmare Moon but at a far, far larger scale. When it was revealed he was simply a powerful unicorn, I liked the concept (it's a nice change to have a villain of a normal species and not... well, demi-god like), but I still couldn't let go of the original way I saw him. So I adapted my headcanon to make it so his canon appearance is only one of his forms (possibly his original form before becoming corrupted) and, like all Alicorns, can change their overall appearance at will.

So, his back story can have a few possible outcomes.

If he was born an alicorn, the backdrop for this fellow would be that he was the Alicorn of magic-based Alchemy, and it was his job to regulate what was practiced and police corrupted forms of alchemy. He could possibly be a love interest of Luna here, when she was very very young, but let's not get into that. Long story short, a horrific battle with perhaps another alicorn or an Elder dragon left him with his horn broken in half in the worst possible way. An alicorn AND unicorn's horn, if broken, will eventually grow back, but if it's magical flow is severely disrupted and directly severed, it simply WON'T grow back. This is what happened to Sombra; his opponent knew enough about magic and was powerful enough to cut off his magic. The princess sisters attempted to try and repair it, but they weren't able to do so.

That eventually began driving him into insanity. Desperate, he used his earth-pony magic to perform a corrupted form of alchemy to replace the broken half of his horn with a red "blood" crystal, magic-harboring gems that are said to be inherently negative to the point of being poisonous (not even sane dragons will eat them).

He regained the entirety of his horn again, and in turn even gained more power than what he originally had. But, with his still-growing insanity and the very corrupted means of gaining his horn, he in turn began to be corrupted. It only grew worse with each passing day, and it reached its breaking point when he murdered one of his kind in a fit of rage. Enthralled by the death and with the corruption's influence increasing, he began a spree that eventually led to him taking over a great portion of the lands (The crystal empire being his stronghold because of... well... the crystals), killing off creatures of all sorts indiscriminately and those who tried to put a stop to him, including those of his own kind.

Sombra, literally empowered by the misery, death, and bloodshed, began to shift in appearance, ultimately becoming what you see here. His transformation possibly would have continued and he would have eventually decimated the world, had it not been for Luna and Celestia's use of the power of the Elements of Harmony (quite possibly the sisters' first time ever utilizing them). Blah blah blah, King Sombra was weakened and imprisoned, but we know he managed to take the Crystal Empire with him somehow, and that they weren't able to fully contain him.

His tainted soul was so bad that whatever left of his "being" (maybe left over magic from the battle or something) literally BECAME the corruption in a sense, giving it a sort of intelligence and the function of a parasite; feasting off of negative feeling and in turn turning it's host into a monstrous shadow of themselves. This makes him the origin of whatever managed to possess and corrupt Luna. Thankfully, her corruption wasn't nearly as bad as Sombra's, so the contamination was able to be fully purged. Why Celestia wasn't able to do it but the Mane 6 were, that's a story for another day.

Whew! So that's one possible headcanon. :3

The second possible headcanon I have of him goes off of the theme of him originally being a unicorn. I haven't fully thought about that one, so I won't say anything quite yet until I figure something out.

Either way though, the one concrete thing I have in my headcanon is that Sombra is the origin of the corruption that possessed Luna, and that he is also the origin of the Alicorn Amulet. I have a headcanon on how the Amulet came to be, but that's also another story for another time.

Also! A little off topic, but his cutie mark would originally be an alchemy circle or magic rune, but it'll eventually morph into an eclipse (possibly could change depending on whether or not it was night or day) with the symbols from his previous cutie mark still being present. I'll draw it eventually.

SO! There you are folks. One of the many headcanons I have of King Sombra, and there will eventually be more in the future. :3 As usual, feel free to ask me questions. Other than that, though, I need to go to bed, soooo.... thank you for stopping to take a look! ^.^
